The sun is out, the birds are singing, the air is warm and there are buds on the trees. Spring has sprung and it's time to start haunting! Time to open up the garage and let the breeze blow the stink off the skeletons and ghouls. We've been working hard the past month organizing this years event. Our 2009 haunt will feature "Nightmare Nursery Rhymes" We're taking some old clasics and twisting them the give all the kiddies a fright! The layout is planned, lists are made and we've even ordered some supplies. Now that the weather is starting to get nice, we'll be able to start building some of the horrific things we're going to need this fall.
I'm losing my co-conspirator this year. Ange is moving away to Alberta with her family when her house sells. Personally, I'm hoping that won't happen until November, but hey, that's just me and apparantly, I can be selfish. I haven't gone so far as to stage an official protest at her home during an open house, but honestly, anything's possible. I may call on you all later for help in that area. Lucky for me I have a whole fantastic group of volunteers who are as excited for this year's haunt as I am. From start to end last year there were about 60 helpers involved and they've all said they'll be back this year. What a great bunch!
I won't bore you with all the details of every little bit of planning that's going on right now but I will tell you this. It's going to be cool. It's going to be exciting and it's going to be scary! I don't like gory things, just good old fashioned Halloween scares. The walkthrough of course will be the scary part. The kiddie carnival will remain silly and friendly for all the little tots who aren't old enough for the walk through. We're adding a few new games for the wee ones as well.
Once again Cyriel at Quality Foods has offered to supply the hags in Spooky's Snack Shack with all the goodies they need to keep the visitors fed. They have been a great support to the haunt and all the Cameryn's Cause events. We're lucky they're part of our community.
And as always, we will be collecting donations for Cameryn's Cause for Kids which is near and dear to my heart. I'm hoping this year raises some great funds for Campbell River families as well.
